Ready, Set, Give!

RiptideRiptide came to AHS with his sister, Current, from Bastrop in early September. These tiny kitties were only a month old, and weighed less than a pound.

They were both suffering from severe upper respiratory infections which had spread to their eyes, making them very swollen and painful. When they arrived at AHS, Riptide’s eyes were so bad that he couldn’t even open them.

Our vets got to work and started providing the medical care these siblings so desperately needed. Slowly, their respiratory infections began to clear, and Current’s eyes started to heal. But the same couldn’t be said for Riptide: his eye problems continued, so he was taken to a veterinary eye specialist to be evaluated. It was then determined that Riptide’s eyes were beyond saving, and he would have to lose them.

RiptideAfter Riptide’s successful surgery, Current was upgraded from sister to seeing-eye cat. She now helps Riptide navigate the world by serving as his eyes. We knew Riptide would always need Current by his side, so we required that they be adopted together – and earlier this month, they were! Today Riptide and Current are living the good life in a safe and happy home, and spend their time snuggling the days away.

These happy tails are made possible by supporters like you. When you consider making a gift, we hope you will think about Riptide's story, and the countless others who need our help.
